Mephisto 3D scanner software is based on the project workflow, it is intuitive and easy to use. The Mephisto operation starts with a Project wizard - here the user indicates the scanner configuration, projection and calibration board properties. |
Our Settings tab contains all the necessary tools and controls to set up your cameras, structured light patterns and other options related to the scanning method, quality and speed. It is possible to also set here the required resolution and frame rate, shutter speed, gain and gamma curves for the Firewire and Canon DSLR camera. 3D Acquisition mode controls allows to choose the bit-word combination for structured light (from 5 bit to 10 bit) and fringe options, covering a range from simple four 90 degrees shift method to an advanced inter-reflections counteracting method. Other settings allow to set up The Deep Scan mode, Turntable rotation increments and trigger delay for more advanced setups |

Our Calibration tab contains all Mephisto calibration tools - Geometric Calibration, Radiometric Calibration, Turntable Calibration and Network Calibration. All calibration tools except Radiometric Calibration use the same unified calibration pattern. The calibration process is simple and intuitive - different calibration board positions and orientations are captured using calibration tool interface and processed to obtain intrinsic and internists properties of the system. Mephisto's Radiometric calibration uses a neutral gray or white background to determine your graphics card-projector-camera system capability to reproduce and capture specified intensity values. Radiometric calibration is stored as a lookup table and is used to generate the correct patterns. |
Mephisto's scanning and output controls are very simple and intuitive to use. The scan button can be triggered either by pressing the button itself or by using the keyboard shortcut āSā. A keyboard shortcut could be also mapped to a remote control (or mouse) , allowing the user to scan without approaching the keyboard. We also located here the saving options (allowing you to export just a point cloud or an already fully triangulated mesh, with or without normals, color and UV information. Saving can be done in the formats .,asc, .obj , binary or ASCII .ply or . stl. There are also options available for shading (simple shaded, normals, color, curvature etc) and drawing mode (points, wire frame edges, shaded mesh). |

Mephisto's Advanced Scan Options tab provides tools to optimize and fine tune the processing and allows a step by step scanner operation for advanced users. There are two sets of tools ; pattern processing tools & 3D reconstruction optimization. Pattern processing tools allow to adjust the intensity thresholding (effectively including or excluding dark noisy and unreliable areas in processing images), smooth fringe phase images and de-noise the processing images. 3D reconstruction options allow to sub sample the data (every point or every other point etc.), limit maximum processing distance to remove any unwanted background, exclude unreliable triangles either by their orientation (areas facing away from scanner are less reliable) or by triangle properties like edge length or internal angles. |
